WHAT AN EVENT! The Chicago Skyliners Chapter outdid themselves to make this a convention to go down in history. 279 registrants know first-hand that this is true.
The theme was a replica of the Lucien Lelong skyscraper bottle created by Lalique. Even the table centerpieces used this theme -- and how appropriate for Chicago with its many skyscraper buildings.
The tours of the city were wonderful. But the Saturday night extravaganza at the Sanfilippo Estate was to die for. Words cannot begin to express what our eyes behdld. There are museums around the world that cannot compare. THANK YOU to Member Jeffrey Sanfilippo for wining and dining our entire group, plus providing eye-popping sights of music machines, trains, Tiffany lamps, and the most beautiful carousel ever!
Presentations on Grosssmith by Mr. Simon Brooke (keynote), on Viard by Peggy Tichenor, on Irice by Lyndie Slack, on DeVilbiss by Marti DeGraaf & Toby Mack, on Art Deco by Nicholas Dawes were just some of the highlights of convention.
AUCTION REPORT: The auction of perfume bottles and related vanity items broke all previous years records by topping 1/2 Million Dollars with a sell-through rate of 83%. This IPBA hosted event is the longest running specialty auction of perfume bottles in the world and returning clients have come to expect unique, seldom seen, and undocumented bottles to appear.
Consignments are now being considered for the 2012 Perfume Bottles Auction. For information contact Ken Leach at 800-942-0550 or ken [at] perfumebottlesauction [dot] com.
Our Perfume Bottle Show and Sale is open to the public and we have a special 2-for-1 Offer on tickets. Buy one ticket @ $5 and get a second ticket free! Tickets are good for return entry.
The Chicago Skyliners Regional Chapter has lined up some fabulous events to make the 2011 convention even more memorable! These are not yet completely finalized. However ... whatever the final result ... plan on being overwhelmed.

The story of the new Grossmith's Perfumery is one of luck, tenacity and imagination. It began with a family tree and ended with the resurrection of one of England's oldest perfume brands.
Simon has revived the fortunes of London's oldest perfume house after discovering it was founded by his great-great-grandfather. When he began researching his family tree he had no idea of his link to the perfumer who made scent for Queen Victoria but found he was related to the perfume empire founded by John Grossmith in 1835.
Do you recognize this face? Anyone who has watched the "Antiques Roadshow" on PBS or has attended a recent convention knows this is Nick Dawes, Lalique expert, auctioneer extraordinaire, wonderful speaker and all-around great guy!
In Chicago we will be honored with his presence and regaled with his knowledge again. This time the subject will be Art Deco.
On the heels of the record breaking 2010 auction, director Ken Leach is now welcoming consignments of fine and high end perfume bottles and vanity items for Chicago, IL.
Ken's goal is to refine the selection and tempt collectors with "the most beautiful and unusual group of items ever offered in an IPBA auction." He adds that he has already secured two of the most unique Czech bottles he has seen, and a grouping of jeweled and enameled 19th century scent bottles that will have bidders on the edge of their seats.
Ken [at] PerfumeBottlesAuction [dot] com (subject: IPBA%20Convention%20Auction) (Ken) is available to consult with you regarding consignment of one bottle or a collection. Visit the auction website at www.perfumebottlesauction.com.
In past years our members' thoughtful and generous donation of perfume related raffle prizes has helped make the Convention Raffle a great success. This little message is meant to nudge you to begin thinking about what might make a neat raffle prize in 2011.
If you're ahead on this and already have something, please contact the vicepresident [at] perfumebottles [dot] org (subject: IPBA%20Convention%20Raffle) (Raffle Coordinator.)
Would you like to honor someone - perhaps a fellow IPBA member, or a cherished member we have lost? Would you like to contribute more to the IPBA but are not sure how? Here's a way ... sponsor an event at the annual convention and receive recognition for that.
For example, give a monetary contribution specifically to help defray the cost of the new member reception, or the keynote speaker's expense reimbursement, or the "Collecting Perfume Bottles 101" session. There are many opportunities to help. The Board has come up with the following schedule of selected events:
*Indicates multiple sponsorships available for these events. If you would like to contribute but in a smaller amount, this will certainly be more than welcome. Just contact our treasurer [at] perfumebottles [dot] org (subject: IPBA%20Convention%20Sponshorships) (Treasurer) with your request.
Remember the IPBA is a nonprofit organization with tax-exempt status under IRS Section 501C3 and is recognized as a collector association. All gifts are tax deductible. However, we do urge you to contact your own tax preparer.
If this is your first convention, the orientation session is essential. The IPBA Board will be present to greet you and answer any questions you may have, explain member benefits and help you understand the convention schedule. You will also have time to mingle with other first time attendees and meet your friendly Mentor who will help guide you throughout the convention and introduce you to other collectors who share your interests. If you will be a first time attendee, or would like to participate as a Mentor, please contact our mentorings [at] perfumebottles [dot] org (subject: First%20Time%20Attendee%2FMentoring) (Mentor Program Coordinator) .
Volunteers for the many important roles during the Convention are always very welcome - if you would like to volunteer there is space on the Registration form for you to choose a job. Opportunities are available for:
You can volunteer right now - decide what day(s) and times you can help (see the Convention Registration form for time slots) and then contact the conventions [at] perfumebottles [dot] org (subject: Convention%20Volunteering) (Convention Chair).
